Identifying your interests

You’re more likely to enjoy your job if it aligns with your interests.
Do you know what your Interests are?
These 2 questions can really help:

1)    What do I love to do?

2)    What am I good at?

Clarifying your interests helps to focus your career search, especially if you’re struggling to decide or don’t know where to start.

Give this a try

Write down the first 3-5 things you think for each of the two questions. The secret is to simply write down the first things that come to mind and don’t overthink it. Your answers can be anything!

What do I love to do?

What am I good at?

You may be surprised at what you write down. It’s likely your list will include things you do in your spare time or things you really enjoy doing but just don’t have the time to do. It’s not always obvious how you can find a career from your interests, but if you look you will find.

An example might be that you love playing video games.

To explore this further…

What do you enjoy about gaming? Could you become a professional gamer or a games tester before they’re sold to the public?

Are you interested in how the games are created? Maybe you could become a games developer.

Do you enjoy the social aspect of playing with friends or meeting new people online? You might enjoy a role which involves socialising with clients and other third parties. Perhaps, explore roles related to selling and marketing the games.

The process isn’t quick, but doing some research to explore your interests will be worth it.
Better to spend the time now than spending even longer working a job you don’t enjoy.
Exploring your interests will ultimately lead you to finding a job you love.
