CYBER SECURITY ROLES LINKED TO GAMING

Are you always playing video games on your Xbox, PS5 or PC? 

Now, imagine actually getting to work on the development of those games and devices, whilst maintaining their safety measures to fight against hackers (the real life bad guys). 

With online gaming exponentially growing over the recent years, it means that sadly cyber-criminals have jumped on board too. 

Gamers are at a higher risk than ever of fraud and theft within this multi-million powerhouse industry.  

But with the similarities between the two, it’s not surprising that most cybersecurity workers are into gaming! 

Take a look at some of the job roles within the Cyber Security - Gaming field.  

Product Security Engineer, Infrastructure and Cloud Services

Love analysing problems and working as a team to defeat evil? Look no further.

  • Carry out threat modelling, design reviews, code reviews and testing.

  • Scout and analyse vulnerabilities, rate them and come up with solutions for them.

  • Collaborate in security engineering projects to eliminate attack vectors, strengthen the gaming platform, and enhance monitoring and intrusion detection systems.

  • Drive the technical direction of products and platforms by providing guidance to ensure that new features and services are built with security and privacy as priority. 

Application Security Engineer 

Ideal for someone who has experience and familiarity with software and computer systems, hands-on technical skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Conduct penetration testing against native mobile applications, web services, Cloud front-end & back-end services.

  • Carry out infrastructure assessments of networks and data services that support the gaming platforms. 

  • Maintaining security engineering infrastructure services and custom tooling used by the application security team.

  • Validate internal, external and crowd-sourced application security findings and voice them to the engineering teams.

  • Perform reverse engineering of mobile app products and / or source code reviews when needed.

Systems Administrator 

If you’ve got impeccable problem solving skills, a passion for customer service and experience of project management, along with a good understanding of gaming and PC software, this could be for you. 

  • Be the first and second-line technical support to the game development team.

  • Supplying desktop hardware and software support, such as installation, maintenance and purchasing. 

  • Providing an excellent level of customer service to ensure minimal downtime for the end user. 

  • Act as a key point of contact for technical knowledge and expertise.

  • Communicate effectively with IT management, providing regular updates.

  • Build, deploy and configure PC's and development consoles for new and existing employees.

Software Engineer 

Diving into the core development of gaming software. Ensuring that a game will always be stable through every stage of development. 

  • Promote development and set new bars for platforms to power the development and testing of games.

  • Use automated testing, workflow tools, development services and data insights to promote industry-defining game quality by identifying defects in the beginning stages.

  • Support high-quality game changes and gain as much information as possible to solve defects.

  • Evaluate and adopt technologies to improve team efficiency and platform capabilities. 

  • Review code and share feedback to ensure consistency and quality.

  • Collab with other engineers and development teams to understand and analyse requirements and problem areas, then translate them into technical designs.
